Gastro Intestinal Cancers

Colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in the US. There are also a variety of other GI cancers that arise in the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, liver, and pancreas. Lifestyle, diet, genetics, and the environment can contribute to the development of these potentially lethal diseases. Optimal treatment of these complex problems is a hallmark of our practice. We use the most advanced and cutting-edge technology while using the most up-to-date medical studies, to employ a multi-disciplinary approach to treat these problems.

Hernia Surgery

Hernias are among the oldest reported ailments known to mankind. The organs within the abdominal cavity are protected and held in place by a tough outer wall of tissue called the “abdominal wall.” The abdominal wall is compromised of a complex network of strong fascia. These fascial layers are often disrupted due to age, obesity, congenital anomalies, or prior surgery. The disruption of the fascia allows abdominal contents (including bowel and organs) to protrude through the weakness in the fascia. Oftentimes, patients feel a “bulge” somewhere in the trunk of the body or near the groins – which represents the hernia (abdominal content protruding through the weakness in the fascia). Besides pain or discomfort, hernias can potentially create surgical emergencies and are potentially lethal problems.

Colorectal Surgery

There are dozens of problems that can arise in the anus, rectum, and colon. Diverticulitis, fistulas, fissures, abscess, hemorrhoids, inflammatory bowel disease, and cancers are common problems we help our patients overcome.

Acid Reflux Surgery

Acid reflux is a common nuisance in the US. Besides life-limiting discomfort created by the reflux, the chemical injury caused by the reflux on the lining of the esophagus can contribute to serious problems, including cancer. Often, there are anatomic defects in the diaphragm that create hernias between the chest and abdomen which impact the reflux. Our surgeons are able to repair diaphragm hernias using minimally invasive techniques and the most advanced surgical technologies.

Gallbladder Surgery

Many patients who experience abdominal pain have gallbladder problems- either gallstones or inflammation called cholecystitis. Years ago, the treatment for this required an operation with a fairly large, painful incision, many days in the hospital, and a lengthy recovery. Fortunately, in the vast majority of cases, this type of surgery can now usually be performed using an advanced minimally invasive approach which can usually be done as an ambulatory procedure.
